Lisa has decades of experience in a wide array of real estate and finance matters, and now emphasizes primarily land development and natural resource preservation. She formed Hawkins Law PLC as a solo practice after nearly two decades as a partner with Flora Pettit PC, which she helped found after periods of practice with Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver and an international firm in Denver, Colorado where she lived following graduation with Order of the Coif honors from University of Virginia School of Law.
Lisa has been named among the “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business at least ten times since 2010 (most recently in 2023), and as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” for eight years running. Lisa currently serves on the Boards of the Alliance for the Shenandoah Valley and the Valley Conservation Council, was a founding Board member of Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, and served on request as a member of the Downtown 2040 Committee and the City of Harrisonburg Housing Study Advisory Committee. She has at times served on Boards and Committees of the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, Rocktown History (formerly the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society), and the Arts Council of the Valley, among others.
An avid traveler by land, sea, air and book, Lisa is convinced that one person doing the right thing makes the whole world better.
